Name: Martin J. (Winger) Wenger , G184
Birth: 10 AUG 1769
Death: 13 AUG 1826
RLW DJH CEW Moved to Little Cove, Warren Twp., Franklin Co., PA. Married Barbara Bechtel, 1774.8.17 1848.3.30 on Nov. 15, 1792. He purchased the Mansion House from David Brown in 1801 in Little Cove, Warren Twp. See HLC, page 186. Martin purchased other lands in Warren Twp.. That Martin is the son of Martin Wenger, 1742.2.2 1815.9.28, G18, (i1748.9.16) Elder is proved (APL) from information in Deed Book 13, p. 495-496, Franklin Co., Courthouse, PA. Text from that deed is below. Some have offered that Martin is G143. See Martin Wenger, 1759 1820, G143 Martin changed his name to Winger and two of his children changed again to Wingard. APL gives that REW indicated that Martin died by hanging himself and that he was apparently brooding over religious matters. APL gives the story that Martin was advised to ride horseback vigorously to improve the condition of his liver (thought to be the source of emotions). One can speculate that he suffered from depression. Both buried along with three single daus. on the old Winger farm, now (1968) occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Clempston Weller.
