    Frances Howe Johnson says he was born in Marshall County, Virginia. She wrote that "After his father's death (he) was reared by his grandfather Watson near Brownsville, Pa. on a branch of the Monongahela River. One granddaughter said he was raised in the Panhandle of West Virginia by his uncle David Watson. (He may have been taken there after his grandparent's death.)"

    He immigrated about 1828 to Washington Co., Ohio. He died on June 18, 1864 in Washington Co., Ohio. According to Frances Howe Johnson, he died "from injuries received from being kicked in the stomach by a horse while visiting his son William. He was said to have been a very large, strong, handsome man and the soul of honor. His son-in-law, James Strain (m. Roena) was wounded the same day in the Union Army. His son, Bloomfield, most resembled him in appearance, William and Joseph in disposition. Jacob was small like his mother." He was buried in Warren Chapel Cemetery, Warren Twp., Washington Co., Ohio. He was a farmer in the 1850 and 1860 censuses in Warren Twp., Washington Co., Ohio. This information is from the files of Rich Ritchie.
