    In 1850 Joseph was a stone cutter living near Briggs Station and the stone quarries, so he may never have lived on the land the following deed but held a mortage on it. The land is just east of Barlow Village and may have fronted on the Marietta to Bartlett highway.

    Deed Vol. 45, pg. 323 - JOSEPH MANKINS and Polly Mankins his wife of Washington Co., Ohio for $200.00 paid by Rebecca Gorham of same place, release and quit claim to premises in Barlow Twp. containing 1/4 acre, a part of 160 acre Lot #1027, Sect. #21, Range #10, Town #3

    Joseph and Polly joined on of the comunity migrations about the year of 1855, to Henry Co., Ill., where they are found later with relatives and friends from Ohio. (Ellenwood's & Bickford's)

    History of Atkinson Twp., Henry Co., Illinois states that Otis W. Mankins (Joseph's son) came in 1854. (see notes for Otis Warren Mankins)
