John married Sarah Hall on May 12, 1756 in Buckingham Monthly Meeting in Pennsylvania. (P-263 Buckingham MM Marriages Authorized.) Sarah only lived a few years after their marriage, and shortly after her death John married her sister, Emma. In 1772 they moved to South Carolina and were received at Bush River Monthly Meeting on a certificate dated December 5, 1760 from Goshen Monthly Meeting in Chester County, Pennsylvania (Page 1035 Bush River MM Records). Here John was known as "John of Padgett's Creek." John had four children, probably all from the first marriage to Sarah Hall.

Some researchers credit John Pearson with two more children: Jeremiah Pearson, born in South Carolina, moved to Jasper Co., Georgia, and was a soldier in the War of 1812; Stephen Pearson, born in 1774 in South Carolina and died in Hancock Co., Georgia. He was also a soldier in the War of 1812. He married first, Mary __?___ who died in 1827 and second, Catherine Garland on March 16, 1833. I have found no evidence to prove these two children were sons of John of Padgett's Creek. I'll admit that my curiosity was stirred, when I learned from a map of Georgia that the counties of Jasper and Hancock were within about 75 miles of Butts County, where John's oldest son, Enoch, settled. On Oct. 30, 1779 at the Bush River Monthly meeting at Newberry, SC John was disowned for "taking up arms and going out in a war like manner". His name can be found in the DAR Partiot Index.
