    In 1835 John BASS was taken by his parents to Owen County, Indiana and he lived there until he was 19 years of age. John and his parents then came to Des Moines Township, Boone County, Iowa where they still reside. In 1872 the family moved to his present farm of 240 acres. After John BASS married he began farming and continuously engaged in agricultural pursuits until he retired in 1893 and purchased a residence in Ogden, Boone County, Iowa. He served for about 15 years as the president of the Boone County Agricultural Society and in his political views he was a Democrat. He has served as township trustee and was school director for several years. Fraternally he was connected with Rhodes Lodge, No. 303, A. F. & A. M., of Ogden, Iowa. John BASS was a member of A. F. and A. M. lodge, No. 79 at Boonsboro, Iowa.
