Also on this ship were Bernard's sister Dorethea and her children. Due to an error in the list they are show with the last name Solegmann. Listed are Dorethea, female, son Fried Solegmann, male, age 16, son Laurent Solegmann, male, age 13, and son Philip Solegmann, male, age 10. Bernard and Dorethea's brother Philip (Heinrich) and his family are also on this ship.     Charles GOETZMAN was reared in Zanesville, Ohio pursuing his education in the public schools and also received a business training there. After putting aside his text books he learned the harness-maker's trade which he followed throughout his entire life. In 1855 he came to Boonesborro, Iowa and engaged in the manufacture of all kinds of harness. He also conducted stores in which he disposed of his harness and saddlery and in his mercantile and manufacturing efforts he prospered. In 1878 he removed to Boone, Iowa and was identified with the business interests of the county seat until his heath. He was also a very successful farmer, owning and operating at one time three valuable farms. Charles GOETZMAN was one of the originators of the Boone County Bank and at the time of his death was its vice-president.

    In his political views Charles GOETZMAN was a stalwart Democrat and his fellow townsmen frequently called him to public office. For many years he was identified with the school board and did everything in his power to advance the cause of education. Socially he was a Mason. He joined the Mount Olive Lodge, A. F. & A. M. in 1859. He attained the thirty-second degree and was a Knight Templar and a member of the Mystic Shrine. In religious faith he was connected with the German Lutheran Church.

    Charles GOETZMAN lived and died at his house at 312 Boone St., Boone, Boone County, Iowa. He died of bronchial pneumonia and heart failure.
