JANESVILLE- Gerald Jerry Severance, 75, of Janesville, died unexpectedly Saturday, Jan. 21, 2006, at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison, WI.
He was born in Milwaukee, WI, on Feb 28, 1930, the son of Lyle B. and Ludell (Cassidy) Severance. Jerry graduated from Janesville High School in 1950 and spent 4 years from 1950 to 1954 in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Vermillion. He married Janet M. Simeth on Oct. 6, 1956, at St. William Catholic Church in Janesville. Jerry was employed at WR Arthur Co. (JATCO). He then became a mail carrier for the US Postal Service, retiring in 1991. Jerry had also been employed at the Pizza Hut for many years. He was a member of St. William Catholic Church, where he served as an usher. Jerry was actively involved with his children and grandchildren and was a strong presence in time of need.
He is survived by his wife, Janet; 6 children: David, Dean (Chris), both of Janesville, Linda of Brodhead, Steven, Mark (Carrie) and Mike (Nancy), all of Janesville; and 21 grandchildren: Lisa, Zach, Sarah, Josiah, Jed, Esther, Noah, Abe, Anna, Jacob, Rachael, Elizabeth, Danny, Sam, Sean, Scott, Spencer, Jason, Codey, Kyle and Justin. He was preceded in death by his parents; twin brother, John; a sister, Patricia; and grandson, Bobby.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 26, 2006, at St. William Catholic Church. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the Schneider Apfel Schneider & Schneider Funeral Home, where there will be a Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
