Whitford, 91, of Milton, passed away Tuesday morning, Jan. 16, 2007, at Mercy Hospital in Janesville. She was born on Feb. 23, 1915, in Jackson Center, OH, daughter of the late Walter & Norma (Jones) Polan. She moved to Milton at the age of 5 and attended school there. She was a graduate of Milton Union High School, and then graduated and received her Bachelor's Degree from Milton College. On Jan. 5, 1938, she married Charles A. Whitford in Dubuque, IA. He preceded her in death on Oct. 2, 1968. Charlotte had worked at Burdick Corporation, Gilman Engineering, and had also worked at the Milton College cafeteria. She was a longtime member of the Seventh Day Baptist Church in Milton, and had been an active member of the Women's Circle and also worked the turkey dinner, known for making her cranberry salad! She very much enjoyed arts and crafts, and was known for her handmade beaded flowers. She enjoyed working crossword puzzles, and also loved reading. She loved traveling with her family and friends. She is survived by her 6 children: Marjorie (Steve) Schrock of Prairie, MS, Monte (Karen) Whitford of Stoughton, WI, Philip (Suzanne) Whitford of Janesville, Gary (Barbara) Whitford of Gardnerville, NV, Donald (Kim) Whitford of Fox Lake, WI, and Janice (Mike) Haase of Janesville; her sister, Maurine (Al) Loomer of Green Bay, WI; her 2 brothers, Russel (June) Polan of Bull Shoals, AR, and Roger Polan of Santa Barbara, CA; 19 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; and by many nieces, nephews, and friends. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Charles R. "Chick" Whitford; her daughter, Judith; a sister, Virginia; and 2 brothers, Robert and Neal. A memorial service celebrating Charlotte's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, Jan. 19, 2007, at the Milton Seventh Day Baptist Church, 720 E. Madison Ave., Milton, with Rev. George Calhoun officiating. Private interment will take place at a later date in the Milton Cemetery. Friends may call on Friday from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. at the Church. The Whitcomb-Lynch-Albrecht Funeral Home, Milton, is assisting her family with arrangements.
