Categories: Milton Newspaper Obituary, Rev. James L. Skaggs Officiating, Welton, Iowa
"The Milton Junction Telephone", Milton Junction, Wisconsin, Thursday, Feb. 6, 1930, p 1.
Leonard Abner Van Horn, who has spent a little over a year in Milton Junction, at the home of his brother Willard Van Horn, died at Mercy Hospital, Janesville, on Saturday, February 1, 1930.
Mr. Van Horn was a son of Marion and Malinda Davis Van Horn, and was born at Welton, Iowa, October 5, 1870.
He was married at Welton in 1892 to Miss Clara L. Van Horn. Eight children were born to them. They are in the order of their ages as follows: Reva, now Mrs. Ernest Saunders of Welton; Floyd M., who died in 1918, Merritt D., of Milton, Wis.; Irel O., of Clinton, Iowa; Loyal R. and Kenneth, of Welton; O. Burlson, of Milton Junction, and Glenn H., of Welton. Mrs. Van Horn died about two years ago.
Mr. Van Horn spent his early life in farming. Later he followed carpentering, and for twenty-eight years he owned and operated a blacksmith shop at Welton. About a year and a half before his death, he suffered an apoplectic stroke and since that time he has been quite dependent upon the care of others.
In young boyhood he became a member of the Seventh Day Baptist Church at Welton, and has maintained that membership throughout his life.
A brief farewell service was held on Monday afternoon at the Gray and Albrecht Funeral Parlor in Milton Junction, and was conducted by Pastor J. L. Skaggs of Milton, Mrs. Clarke M. Todd singing two appropriate selections. That evening a son, Merritt started with the body to the old home at Welton, where the funeral service and burial took place.
