  • ID: I0315
  • Name: Mary OVELGOENNE
  • Sex: F
  • Birth: FEB 1834 in Oldenberg, Germany
  • Death: AFT 1900 in Kenton Co., Kentucky
  • Note:
Another researcher told me that Mary's maiden name was Grimm, but all the evidence I have found shows that it was Ovelgoenne(r). This evidence includes a Hamilton County marriage record, as well as several church records from St. Joseph Church in Covington, KY. Is it possible that Mary was married before to a Grimme? She was 25 years old when she married Henry (and two years older than he).

I have been reading with great interest your website in regards to the Boehmer family...particularly Anna Maria Ovelgoenne who was married to Henry (Heinrich) Boehmer. In 1870, Anna Maria and Henry are shown living in Cincinnati, OH with a young 10 year old girl, who must have been Henry's daughter from a prior marriage as Anna Maria was 62 years old for having a 10 year old daughter. Also living with them is Augusta, 25 years old and her husband William Siekman, along with their infant daughter Victoria. Augusta must have been Anna Maria's daughter from a prior marriage, before they emigrated to America. Obviously she named her daughter after her own father August Ovelgoenne. I thought it was spelled "Overgoenne" in some Hamilton County records for Ohio. In 1880, I found Augusta, her daughter Victoria, and her mother "Maria", living in Portsmouth, Scioto Co., OH. Do you know anything about this? I am assuming that Anna Maria was either divorced or widowed, and that Augusta and William Siekman were divorced. He never talked about her or ever mentioned a daughter from a first the next two subsequent marriages to Elizabeth Louisa "Lizzie" (Strothers)Bieknuever...a young widow, and his 3rd marriage to Wilhemenia "Minnie" Louise Wieman. Can you fill me in with any more detail and do you know whatever happened to Augusta and her daughter Victoria. I am thinking that the marriage for Augusta and William Siekmann must have been pre-arranged in Germany/Prussia. The reason for all my questions and concerns is that I am working on my husband's family history. His great grandfather was William Henry Frederick Siekmann, who was first married to Augusta. My husband John and his two sisters...Selma and Mary, are descended from Frederick "Fred" Siekman...son of William and his 2nd wife Elizabeth Louisa "Lizzie" Strothers Boehmer/Bohmeyer. Sincerely, Linda Siekman Email: Beaverc

Marriage 1 Henry BOEHMER b: JAN 1836 in Westphalia, Germany
    • Married: 13 NOV 1860 in Hamilton County, OH
    • Note:
According to a family story, Henry and Mary met on the ship that brought them to America. Mary became seasick and Henry offered his boot for Mary to rest her head against. According to the 1900 census, Henry and Mary had been married for 40 years, which supports the story. (The person who told me this story said that Mary's maiden name was Grimm, so this story may have been in reference to someone else).

There is a Hamilton County marriage record for a Heinrich Boehmer and Anna M. Ovelgoenne on November 13, 1860.
