My family history research begins with my TOWNSEND line which began in Virginia, and migrated primarily to Maryland and Delaware. From there they spread throughout the country. I often have direct and indirect relationships in my database. I attempt to cite sources and references from books, census data, online sources, and other researchers. My other direct family lines are TRUITT, CLARK, WIX, MCKNITT, BROWN, SMITH, GULLETT, GOSLIN, HEIDRICH, STUETZ, SCHULTHEISS.

      Text: " BENJAMIN TOWNSEND
      SHOOTS SELF IN HEAD
      ---------------------------------------------
Had Been Dead For About Three Hours When His
Son Found Him In A Truck
      --------------------------------------------------

Benjamin Townsend, aged 78, was found dead by his son Benjamin last Saturday noon in the rear of the son's house near Easton. The deceased was formerly a resident of Centreville, where he successfully sold livestock for many years. His wife died about two years ago, and since that time he made his home with his son just outside of Easton.
On Saturday morning the deceased left the house and went to sit in his truck just in the rear of the house. The wife of young Townsend went about her housework, and when her husband came home at dinner time he was told by his wife to call the father for dinner.
The son, thinking his father was asleep in his truck, was startled when he saw a gun in his lap and blood flowing, from a wound in the side of his head. He ran to the house and gave the alarm. He called the doctor and the sheriff, the latter believing an inquest unnecessary.
For many years Mr. Townsend was one of the principal stock dealers in this section of the shore. He made a specialty of serving private concerns with young lambs, and had a very lucrative business until the financial crash came. On top of this loss by the banks closing he lost his wife, and this more or less upset him.
He is survived by the following children: Mrs. J. H. Hall, Wilmington, Del.; Alexander Townsend, Wilmington; Julian Townsend, Centreville; Mrs. Harry L. Smith, Annapolis; Benjamin Townsend, Easton; Ruth Townsend, Wilmington; Mrs. Ellis Meintzer, Easton.
Funeral services were held on Monday afternoon from Spence's Funeral Parlors. Rev. Alward Chamberlaine, of Centreville, officiated. Interment in Spring Hill Cemetery."
