Abbrev: The Townsend Family of Maryland Title: The Townsend Family of Maryland Author: Ruth T. Dryden Publication: Ruth T. Dryden 2414 Front St. # 25 San Diego, CA 92101-1438 1993 Text: " INTRODUCTION Early Eastern Shore Virginia, that is Northampton and Accomack Counties, reveal more than one Townsend Family living there in the early 1600's. John of Northampton County migrated to Maryland and is the progenitor of the lower eastern shore family. There was also a Thomas Townsend of Accomack county who left many ancestors some of whom also migrated to Maryland and Delaware. I was unable to connect these two families. There were a few families I was not able to identify. They consist mostly of the Townsend's that migrated to Delaware and later returned to Maryland, specifically those in now Wicomico County, Maryland. Many of my correspondents and of course the unfatigable Leslie P. Dryden, now deceased, are responsible for some of the contents in this booklet. Other sources include wills, land records, court records, marriages, cemetery, Bible, Church, census, and the SS death index. I take all the blame for any errors that have occurred since some of the early records require interpretation which can be faulty. There are also omissions but I hope this document will be useful to researchers in identifying their fore bearers." Page: page 55 Quality: 3 Date: 8 Jun 2003
