Note: George and his family came to America on the Ship (Berwick) arrivedin New Orleans, Jan 20 1845, where they stopped briefly. Their tripcontinued up the Mississippi river to St. Louis where they met two mennamed Smith and Brewer who had a farm two miles southwest ofShullsburg, they made arrangements to occupy the farm, so theycontinued up the river to the Fever river to Galena, Illinois. Fromtheir they traveled overland to Shullsburg by covered wagon pulled byoxen. George lived on this farm 2-3 years, then George took up a claim of160 acres near New Diggings, after 5 years he bought another farm nearShullsburg, 4 years later he purchased 240 acre farm on Grant riverbetween Flora and Beetown. George retired from farming in 1880. George died Jan 2 1884 at the age of 85 years 6 months. Marthadied Jan 6 1887, at the age of 79 years and 11 months of Pneumonia,both are buried in Providence Cemetery, two miles south ofBloomington, Wisconsin.
