Fort Orange Court Minutes, July 15, 1659:
Sijmon Janssen, plaintiff, against Jan van Eeckelen, defendent. The plaintiff says that the defendent has in his custody some silverware belonging to Christoffel Davids. The plaintiff, therefore, requests that he may have part of this as security, as he has a promissory note from the aforesaid Christoffel Davids. The defendant says that the aforesaid silverware was given to him by Christoffel Davids as security for a debt, so that he has a prior claim to it. The honorable court orders that the defendant shall prove that the aforesaid silverware was given to him as security for a debt.

Davidts, Christoffel (Kit), a native of England b. 1616; in 1650 lived on a farm at Dominie's hoeck now called Van Wie's Point. 1656 received a patent for 36 morgens of land at Esopus about a (Dutch) mile inland from the North river; 1663 asks permission to reenter on land from which he had been driven by Indians at Esopus. His wife was Cornelia, dau. of Andries De Vos of Beverwyck. She died in 1657, leaving at least two children: Joris Christoffelse, and David Christoffelse. The latter with wife and four children were massacred by the French and Indians at Schenectady, Feb. 9, 1690.

Christoffel (Davidts, Davidse, Davidsen), said to be native of England and born in 1616, arrived at New Amsterdam on "het Wapen van Noorwegen," Aug. 4, 1638; aged 22; traded in tobacco; leased the Dominie's Hoeck (Van Wie's Point) on west side of Hudson below Albany, July 22, 1650, where he was to build his own house, the Patroon furnishing livestock; married Cornelia De Vos, of Beverwyck, who died in 1657.
