Note: Col. Ramsey---Died at his residence near Sweetwater April 28th, 1872. Col. John Ramsey, born May the 5th, 1797. Col. Ramsey was one of the earliest settlers of Sweetwater Valley, dating back about half a century. During his long life he was ever found a true soldier of the Cross. In creed an earnest Presbyterian. One of the founders of the church in this county. A Presbyterian in faith, devoted to the church of his choice, and yet a Christian, in its broadest sense, loving all, who bore the image of his Master. For the advancement of Christ's cause and the building up of his chosen church, no sacrifice was too great. He put on the whole armor, when first he entered his Master's service. Nor did he lay it down, until the Master called him to lay aside the armor to take the crown. To sum up all of his virtues and labors, as a citizen, a husband and father, would savor of adulation. Of him it may be said, "none knew him but to love him." His death has cast a gloom over the community, where he so long lived, and was so much loved in the Church, in the Sabbath School, in society, and the question is asked: "Who will take his place?" His death was calm and peaceful as a summer eve. MONROE CO., TN EARLY NEWSPAPER ABSTRACTS 1868 - 1908
