Eudras Anthony Prosperie, 67, a native and resident of Chauvin, died at 12:02 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2009. Visitation will be from 3 to 10 p.m. Dec. 28 at Samart Funeral Home of Houma in Bayou Blue and from 9 a.m. to funeral time Dec. 29 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Chauvin. Mass will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with burial in the church cemetery.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Margaret “Joan” Boudreaux Naquin Prosperie; one son, Al John Naquin Jr. and wife, Michelle, of Katy, Texas; three daughters, Donna Naquin Matherne and husband, Nolan, Juanita Prosperie Griffin of Chauvin, and Martha Prosperie Bergeron and husband, Keith, of Houma; 11 grandchildren, Andre' Matherne and wife, Bridget, of Houma, John Matherne, Tate Matherne, Travis Rogers and wife, Rechelle, of Chauvin, Christopher Naquin and wife, Lauren, of Lafayette, Lauren Naquin, Kenny Winsmann Jr. of Katy, Texas, Carlton and Shea Griffin of Chauvin and Trevor and Aime'e Bergeron of Houma; two great-grandchildren, Michael Scott Toland III of Katy, Texas, and Bria Jane Matherne of Houma; three sisters, Rosalie Prosperie Dupre and husband, Norbert, of Sparta, Tenn., Marylee Prosperie Martin and husband, Ruffin, of Chauvin, and Geraldine “Gerry” Prosperie Dupre and husband, Samuel, of Florein; and his beloved dogs, Floppy and Prissy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis Esteff Prosperie and Ida Marie Trahan Prosperie; his paternal grandparents, Louis Ate'an Prosperie and wife, Eulalee “TeChan” Pontiff Prosperie; his maternal grandparents, Justilien Joseph Trahan and wife, Marie Roselia Deotile Authement Trahan; two brothers, Joseph Louis Prosperie and Gerald Lee Prosperie; and one sister, Norecia Marie Prosperie.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He never met a stranger; he was loved by everyone who knew him. His hobbies were fishing, hunting, cooking, and spending time with his family and friends. He was a member of South Butler Dog Hunting Association for over 20 years. He was a trawler, trapper and owner of Prosperie's Net Shop. He retired from McDermott Ship Yard, a past member of Voice of the Lord Ministry, a parishioner and Eucharistic Minister of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Chauvin and a member of the “Our Lady of Prompt Succor Adoration Chapel”. He was also a member of St. Joseph's annual boat blessing committee and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 5013. He will be greatly missed. Samart Funeral Home of Houma is in charge of arrangements.
