South Carolina, Greenville District-
In the name of God amen, I John Moon of the district and state aforesaid being of sound and disposing mind and memory, but weak in body and calling to mind the uncertainty of life and being desireous to dispose of all such worldly state as it hath pleased God to bless me with do make and ordain this my last will in manner following that is to say.
1st.
Greenville Mountaineer , 10 January 1840 -
" Departed this life at his residence in Greenville District on the 1st inst. , after a protracted illness, Mr. John Moon, in the 74th year of his age. The deceased was a native of Lunenburg County, Virginia, but has been a citizen of this District for the last 40 years. He has left a large circle of relatives and acquaintances to mourn the departure of a kind and affectionate husband, parent and neighbor, but it is believed that their loss is his eternal gain, for he gave full evidence that he was prepared to meet his Judge in peace ".

PIONEER GREER AREA FAMILIES
John Moon was a son of Gideon and Mary Hudson Moon ( see his sketch in the Citizen). John Moon removed from Lunenburg County, Virginia to Greenville County, S.C. where he signed his will 25 Nov. 1839. He resided west of Greer towards Mauldin. The names of his heirs show in his will as follows:
Nancy T. Moon, my wife.
Nancy Ligon, my married daughter.
Robert Dudley Moon, my son.
John Moon, Jr., my son.
Pleasant Moon, my son and executor.
My deceased daughter ( her name is not listed), wife of David T. Cureton and her share to her children. {note: Her name was Sarah}
Mary Kilgore, my married daughter and other data shows she was the wife of Benjamin Kilgore.
The original estate file of John Moon Sr. in Greenville along with a study of the land deeds may give much more valuable data on this family.
See the Greer Citizen issue of 11 May 1966 on the family of Josiah Kilgore and you will note that his son, Benjamin Kilgore married a Miss Moon and removed to Mississippi. In this will we have her first name as Mary Moon. Genealogy is very similiar to a jigsaw puzzle in that if you take the time, eventually one can place all the jigs in the correct picture. It is very fascinating.
A DAR membership on Gideon Moon of Lunenburg County, Va., goes down through his son, John Moon, to his son Pleasant Lafayette Moon who married Mary Morris and removed to Cobb County, Ga. I wish that the Georgia Moon descendant had sent me the maiden surname of Nancy T., the wife of this John Moon.
Lunenburg Virginia Episcopal Church records show that one John Moon was married 21 November 1795 to Mary Dudley and note a son named Robert Dudley Moon. It is possible that Nancy T. was a second wife of John Moon, and not the mother of all of the children of John Moon.
