Claims that Robert was a Captain who left Durham England after 1763 with a commission from the British Gov't. to make a survey of the Bay of Fund, and that when his work was complete he returned to England. However there is no evidence to support this claim. There is a record of his journey to Nova Scotia in 1774, as part of the Yorkshire Migration, and there is no evidence found to date of military service in the British Army or Navy. There is evidence of the British Navy surveying the Bay of Fundy in the first decade of the 1700's.]
