    Richard Thomas Fulghum was in the 1st Regiment, North Carolina Cavalry, 9th Regiment Volunteers.
    He became regimental Sergeant Major, and was later promoted to Lieutenant.

    After the War he settled in Wayne County, NC and worked for the Wilmington and Weldon Railroad.

    He later became an editorial writer with the Raleigh News and Observer.

    After that he was editor of the Greensboro Patriot until he retired.
