William Lewis was a Soldier and Musician in the Rev. War.
He was in Captain Dixon's Company of the 1st Regiment.
Colonial Records of NC, Vol. 16, page 1100; page 1103 shows he was discharged in 1779.
He was also a foot soldier in Capt. Lewis Bryan's Company in Upper Craven County, NC.
Colonial Records of NC, Vol. 22, page 320.
It is not clear as to which children came from which mother; however it is assumed they were from his second wife since his second marriage was after 1781.
The NSDAR # 750383 shows that Ulle Lewis was the son of William Lewis and Morning Herring but the DAR has indicated this is an incorrect mother.
William Lewis moved from Wayne County to to Sampson County, NC. He died in Cumberland County, NC.
