  • Note: Elizabeth Lucas is found in the Wilson County, North Carolina Census of 1900 by Howell, page number 15, house # 124. She is listed as black. Her death certficiate indicates she was married to David Godwin. Her father was a Edward Lucas. Pictures of her held by descendants show her color as white. In the 1930 census of Wilson County, North Carolina, East Black Creek Township, page 12, she is listed as white as are her children. There was probably a transcription error in the 1900 census.
