I have another document that tends to confirm that John Davis and Charity Outland are not the parents of Benjamin. I have a Will of John Davis, Sr., of Wayne Co, who leaves everything to his wife Sarah ______________, and the following children: Assenath, Joshua, Gabriel, Ezekiel, Exum O., Zachariah, Celia Mayo, and John.

You will note that the Quaker genealogy which I emailed you gave John and Charity Outland's children as Ezekiel, Exum Outland Davis, Richard, Mehitable, Zachariah, Celia, Charity, and John. All of these children are mentioned in the Will, except Richard (died in 1805 per the Quaker list), Mehitabel, and Charity (shown as a twin of John on the Quaker list).

It seems beyond doubt that this John married twice, and that three children (Richard, Mehitabel, and Charity) by his first wife, Charity Outland, did not survive him. He refers to "my eight children" in his will, and then repeats their names.

According to the Quaker records, the son named John also married a Charity -- Charity Jinnett. Their children were Mary Elizabeth Davis (b. 11-1-1844), Zilpha Davis (b. 9-25-1846), Ann (Anne) Matilda Davis (b. 9-13-1849), and Seny Davis (no date given). These children were born about one generation after our Benjamin's birth.
