    The Godwin family came from Isle of Wight and Nansemond Counties, Virginia.
    The family dates back to Somerset, England in the year 1300.

    William Godwin lived in the Toisnot Township. Godwins Bridge over Toisnot Swamp near WGTM radio station, Wilson, North Carolina was named for him.
