Note: 1 Martha Woodward was the great-granddaughter of Col. Nathan Boone, western frontier explorer, military officer and the youngest son of frontiersman, Daniel Boone. MRS. MARTHA BROWN, PIONEER, DIES IN CALIFORNIA Mrs. Martha Ann Brown, widow of the late John F. Brown, pioneer resident of Kendrick, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Myrtle Cole, in Dunsmuir, California, Sunday, November 28, 1943. Death came as the result of an accident suffere d on November 21, and the resulting shock. Mrs. Brown came west with her family in 1889, first settling at Staley, (near Pullman) Washington. In 1892 the family moved to Kendrick, where she had continued to make her home, although spending considerable time with her children at Dunsmuir. Mrs. Brown was very active in church affairs. The following children survive her: Mrs. Marie A. Jones of Banks, Ore.; Mrs. Myrtle Cole of Dunsmuir, Calif.; Mrs. Ethel Lokouitis of Hoquiam, Wash.; Emulus R. Brown of Kendrick; Carl V. Brown and William D. Brown, both of Eureka, Calif. Two sist ers and a brother also survive: Mrs. Ollie Hendrickson of Grangeville, Ida.; Mrs. Rilla Pitcher of Albany, Ore.; and William D. Woodward of Kendrick. Also surviving are eighteen grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandc hildren. Funeral services will be held this afternoon (Thursday, Dec. 2) at 2:00 o'clock from the Kendrick Methodist church, the Rev Roy Murray officiating. Interment will be made in the family plot in the Kendrick cemetery. Friends are invited to atten d the services.
According to her death certificate: died of Broncho-Pneumonia due to accidental fracture of left femur.
She was in the hospital for 4 days after her accident--must have caught pneumonia while in the hospital, which I hear is/was common in these cases. [note: ccs]
