James W., the eldest, was married to Margaret
Ella Blankenship, at the residence of her mother in
Mecklinburg County, N. C, October 19, 1871, by Rev.
James C. Chalmers. Margaret Ella was a great-great-
granddaughter of Captain John Harris. She died in
1874, leaving only one child, Frances Gertrude, born
August 31, 1872. Frances Gertrude married Milas
Milton Harkey, of Pineville, N. C, September 20,
1893, the ceremony being performed by Rev. J. T.
Wade. They have one child, Zebulon Vance, born
September 12, 1894.

James W. Harris' second marriage was to Mrs.
Potts, of York County, S. C, in 1876. The following
are the children of this marriage :

-- Clyde Xeely, 8, 1881 ;
-- Charlton Bowen, 27 Jun 1884;
-- Clarence C, 7 Jun 1887 ; and
-- Mary Jane, 28 Aug 1890.
