Grace Ellen Kerley

Burlington (Alamance County, North Carolina) - Grace Ellen Kerley Carden, formerly of 1431 Beech Drive, Burlington, died Saturday morning, July 1, 2006, at Presbyterian Home of Hawfields where she had resided since 1994. She was born July 12, 190, in Swepsonville, the eldest child of the late James Franklin Kerley and Lillie Moon Kerley. A former employee of Sellars Department Store, she was a charter member of Grace United Methodist Church where she was an active participant in its ministry until her decline in health in 1994. She was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis F. Carden; by three brothers, William D. Kerley, Adrian M. Kerley and H. Jackson Kerley; and by four sisters, Agnes K. Anderson, Mae K. Harris, Evelyn K. Neighbors and Edna K. Terrell.

Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Carden Kane and husband, Mark, of Charlotte and Catherine Carden Long and husband, Jim, of Caswell County; a sister, Mrs. Elaine Dodson, of Mebane; and two brothers, Mr. James Kerley, of Mebane, and Mr. Aubrey Kerley, of Hopewell, Va. Also three grandchildren, Jeff Kane and wife, Mimi, of Charlotte, David Long and wife, Lynn, of Greensboro, and Mary Long-Nowicki and husband, John, of Athens, Ga., and seven great-grandchildren, Mia, Jay and Camilla Kane; Andrew, Molly and Sarah Long and Cullen Nowicki.

She also leaves behind family and friends of the Hawfields staff whose excellent and loving care for Miss Gracie has been greatly appreciated by her family. Funeral services will be held Monday, July 3, 2006, at Grace United Methodist Church, 1899 Wilkins Street, Burlington, at 11 a.m. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow at Pine Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Presbyterian Home of Hawfields, 2502 South NC 119, Mebane, NC 27302 or Grace United Methodist Church, 1899 Wilkins Street, Burlington, NC 27217. McClure Funeral Service of Mebane is serving the family of the deceased.
