The Cardin family is actually two families related through Jeanne Leonarde Genest, a fille-du-roi. Jeanne first married Noel Cardin. A year later, Noel died and Jeanne remarried Pierre Loiseau Francoeur. Jeanne and Pierre's grandchildren took the dit name Cardin, and it has survived into modern times. The Mongeau family has married into both Cardin families.
