Charles C. May, 77, of 3342 Albatros St., a member of one of San Diego's pioneer families, died yesterday in a hospital.
He was born in San Diego in 1882. In 1905 he married Beatrice Magee, also born in San Diego. She is s descendent of the De Pedrorena and Estudillo families. Ramona's Marriage Place in Old Town was once the Estudillo home.
May's father, Charles E., came to San Diego on the steamship Orazaba from San Francisco with William Jeff Gatewood, the founder of the San Diego Union.
May worked for the San Diego Gas & Electric Co. from 1908 until his retirement in 1946. He was hired as a stenographer and in a short time became purchasing agent.
He was elected as assistant secretary of the company in 1916 and kept that position until his retirement. In 1911 he was elected to the company's board of directors. He resigned the position in 1919.
He is survived by his widow Betty; two sons, Cliff and Henry C., and seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today in Bonham Brothers Mortuary. Services will be at 9 a.m. tomorrow in St. Joseph's Cathedral with interment in Holy Cross cemetery.
