Note: Her father, Captain George Davis, a sea captain, took her brothers, Byron and Raymond, around the world in 1849-1851 (in San Francisco during gold rush days), aboard S/V Hampton, and her with her step-sister to Germany aboard the Bark Diana, seeing Alexander II, Emperor of Russia, 27 June 1857 in Hamburg.
George is buried in Princeton Arkansas next to their first born son Clyde Leslie, but also has a monument in Cushing Maine. Her ancestors trace back to at least three Mayflower pilgrims; John Hopkins, William Brewster and William Bradford, second signer of Mayflower Compact.

Note: Virginia's 1863-1865 diary was published in 1983 in The Arkansas Historical Quarterly spring and summer issues. Her materials were turned over to Special Collections at University of Arkansas summer of 2005 (MC-1618) by a second great granddaughter. She was AIU's 1st Chair of what now is Art Dept 1874-1881, her painting of their new University Hall (now Old main) given in 1877 to the Board of Trustees (now lost), the building opening September 1875 with her assigned the 2nd floor Clock Tower, Oliver a nice large 1st floor room according to her Oct 1875 letter (we have some forty letters, 1857 to 1886). She died of cancer 17 August 1886, in respect, all business houses in Fayetteville closing their doors during her services.
