ID: I14249
Name: George Cain
Sex: M
Birth: UNKNOWN in NC of NC parents
Reference Number: 14839
Death: AFT 1920
Name: George Cane
Note: George Cain, Tildy Blackburn, Willie Blackburn, Ida Blackburn and others were buried in Garland off Herring Avenue and N. C. Hwy 24. The cemetary is in a cow pasture owned by A. B. Carter of Garland. It has electric fence around the cemetary. Watch out for the bull. ~~ ------------------ the family story goes that George Cain (or variant was the father) in 1860 George Washington Cain botrn 1834 is immediately next door to this Blackburn family --------------- In 1870 census of Lisbon, Sampson, NC ... George Cain born about 1854 is son of Robert & Drucilla (Rich) Cain also seems good candidate ---------------- also looked at the 1880 census index ...
Here is what I found for possible choices. I limited search to white GCain variants who were born 1824 - 1860 and enumerated in 1880 in Bladen, Cumberland, or Sampson counties. (note ... the Robert & Drucilla (Rich) Cain family is absent from 1880 census ... strange)
CAIN, G. W. Self <1824> Cumberland county, married bef 1852 (note 4) CANE, G. W. Self <1834> Sampson county (Lisbon) (note 5) CAIN, Chas. G. Self <1840> Cumberland, Grays Creek (note 2) KEEN, George H. Self <1852>Sampson, (Westbrook) ( no children *see note 1) CAIN, George W. Self <1856>Cedar Creek ( Geo Wiley) (m. Jan 1875 note 3) CAIN, Charles G. Son<1860>Bladen, Elizabethtown
Notes: 1. G. KEEN has a woman ten years older than he is in same household .. no children in 1880. Not sure how far away Westbrook is from Lisbon, where Matilda Blackburn is; wonder if the G is for George? Further ... in 1920 census there is George Cain (widower) with Tilly Blackburn (widow) ... she is listed as mother-in-law of Ida Blackburn (head of household) and George Cain, age 68 is a boarder. That would make this George Cain born ca 1852 .... age 28 in 1880. Therefore: it is likely that the G. KEEN in 1880 census and the George Cain of 1920 in household with Tildi are the same man. Is this the father of Willie Morris Blackburn?

2. Chas. G CAIN would have been single in 1875 but Grays Creek is too far off.
3. G. Wiley Cain was married Jan 1875; it would seem soon to link up with Matilda so quickly after marriage in order for Willie Morris Blackburn to be born Oct 1875. Further, I cannot see Ida marrying her half brother.... but then???
4. This man fathered his last child about 1863. Seems an unlikely choice and he is at the extreme of age we ought to consider.
5. This is a strong possible ... but it is just that. G. W. CANE had the following family and lived in the same town where Matilda lives; his two neighbors are BLACKBURN families; the Hiram Blackburn family is on page 64B only a few pages later in the census. However, he is 18 years older than Matilda.
