    Pike Township, Brown Co., OH
    Early Settlers

Thomas FOSTER came to the township prior to the arrival of Henry Moyer and lived at the time on the farm which is now occupied by Wesley THOMPSON; he died in Williamsburg, Clermont Co., OH about 1878. William Thompson came from Greenbrier County, Va, and was the father of Alexander, Isaac, James, John, William, Andrew and Felix.

Among the earliest who sought the unbroken forests of this part of the state was Charles HUNT. Of him, tradition can give but little account, as none of his posterity are her to give us the genealogy of the Hunt family. Jonathan Hunt was also among the first comers to this section, and located on the farm which is now the home of Adam EARHART. Other early settlers of which little is known were Jasper SHOTWELL and James MCINTIRE. James McIntire lived in 1830 on the farm now owned and occupied by Theodore KNABE.

    Thomas E. Kelly:
Martha Rebecca Church (Duncanson)- "Rebecca" cared for her father, Jonathan, in his last years at Locust Ridge,
when he is said to have been disabled by skin cancer,on his face, and blindness--
self conscious about his skin cancer condition and the accompanying odor, he
parked his buggy alongside the church window and set there listening to services
    being held inside.

No family better typifies the CHURCH FAMILY tradition of frontier hospitality
than the Charley and Walter Henderson Families, of Locust Ridge, Brown County,
Ohio. Brothers, they are great grandsons of Jonathan (1809-1889) and Harriet
(Earhart) Church (1813-1866). The land they walk and care for is land trodden
by their families for more than 150 years. The old brick house built by Jonathan
Church, about 1854, a house they were both born in, is just down the road from
their homes. They remember old log buildings the families used before that.

Jonathan died in Ohio, in 1889, and is buried in New Harmony Cemetery.
