James Garrett -- I believe this Mathew of 1820 Overton was the Mathew who md Dorcas Carpenter in 1806 Cumberland Co., KY. There was a Timothy Carpenter in Cumberland Co KY who entered 61 acres on Poplar Mt in 1807. This same Timothy Carpenter is in 1810 Cumberland (pg 173) on Ilwill Cr near a Samuel Young, John Young, James Young, & a John Young Sr. Also a John Carpeter appears in 1810 Cumberland (pg 181), near John Young Jr, George Guthrey, & a Samuel Young. Interestingly, Samuel Young (pg 262), George Guthrey, and John Carpenter (pg 263) all appear in 1820 Overton Co., TN. They live near Mathew Young (pg 263). Mathew has 3 sons b. 1810-1820, one of whom may be Mathew Young b. 1810-13 md to Lucinda Carpenter.
Also there was a Mathew Young who gave a deposition in 1820 Overton. His age was given as 36, thus born abt 1784. This would fit the Mathew md to Dorcas in 1806. He would have been abt age 22 when he married. Strangely, I cannot find him in 1810 Census in KY or TN.
I also believe this is the same Mathew Young who witnessed of a land transaction, McIver to George Beaty in 1817 Overton. The record lists him as Mathew Young "Jr". So this tells me that his faher was a Mathew Sr born probably abt/bef 1765 since Mathew "Jr" was b. 1784.
Again I can find no Mathew Young in 1810 or 1820 KY or TN old enough to be a Mathew Sr. However, there are land records in Cumberland Co., KY mentioning a Mathew Young.
- A John Young & Mathew Young received a 1802 Land Warrent in both 1807 & 1813 on Willis Creek. Chain holders were Samuel Young & Mathews Young.
- In 1813 a Mathew & Elizabeth Young & Joh Young sells to Peter Shelly land on Ilwill Cr.
- 1815/16 John Phillips is a poewrof atty to Matthew Young
- 1815/16 Estate of Andrew Stephenson dec'd to Mathew Young & Elizabeth Moore on Willis Cr.

The Mathew Young of 1820 Overton is found in 1830 Jackson Co., AL along with Jesse & Moses Carpenter.
But "if" Mathew Young b. 1810-13 md to Lucinda Carpenter was a son of Mathew Young of 1820 Overton, I question why he did not go to AL with them?
