John Qualls (or Quarles) came to Overton County from Martinsville, VA, with his wife, Jerusia Farris, and bought land in the Oak Hill area. He had 3 sons: George, Gatewood and Robert and 1 daughter, who married a Foster, who left Overton County. Four
of his children 2 sons-- William and Archibal (b. 1806); two daughter---one married Abraham Kims and the other one married William Oakley and had a son, Robert (b. 1814). These four stayed in Overton County. William had 2 sons: Josiah and Archibal
Gatewood, who was called "Peter Qualls" and is bur. in Camp Ground Cemetery where Overton, Putnam and Cumberland County come together. John later swapped land with a Findley man in Bledsoe County and moved there with his wife. Their married children
remained in Overton County. He is buried in Bledsoe County in an unmarked grave, his wife returned to Overton County.
