Abbrev: Kirkbride, Diana Lee Hudson Note: Jim and Bob where raised by my Dad's uncle Jack and his wife. My dad spent most of his younger years with his dad or with his Uncle Herb in Fresno (Herb was neat; he was my Dad's Mom's younger brother). My Grandfather married twice after my grandmother's death. The first was a woman he brought back from Russia; she had a son and [my] mom implied Grandpa brought her to this country for medical treatment. They lived in San Francisco; my dad lived with them and sold newspapers. She was not very kind to my dad; he was 12, I think, at the time. They must have divorced but who knows what happened to her or even her name. At 16 my Grandfather lied about my Dad's age and Dad enlisted in the Army. He always claimed the Army raised him. His Dad managed a ranch near the one my Mom grew up on and my Mom and Dad met when Mom was 12 and he was 17 and fell in love as a 12 year old and 17 year old can. When Dad was called up for WWII they agreed to write but to not commit to each other until he came back. My Grandfather married my Stepgrandma Elizabeth shortly before my Mom and Dad Married. Elizabeth was the only grandmother I ever knew and she was very kind to me. Aunt Mildred was not very fair or kind to Elizabeth, insisting on my grandfather being buried next to her mother. My aunt is also the one who made me go see my grandfather at the funeral parlor. To this day I can only remember him in the coffin. He was a really neat Grandfather not as much fun as my other Grandpa but very well educated and interesting and my Mom really loved and respected him.
