    Gordon and Rachel owned a small farm about two miles southeast of SnakeCreek Gap in Sugar Valley, GA. This gap was the beginning of Sherman'sdrive through Goergia. This is the farm where Union soldiers took all ofthe food and split the feather mattresses. Gordon was later killed byUnion soldiers; his burial place is unknown. He, apparently, was not aConfederate soldier, however Rachel drew a pension from the government.(NOTE: This was probably due to her second husband's, Willis NewtonCleckler, death as a private in the CSA.)
