William Chandler was born September 8, 1786, in Buckingham County, Virginia. It is believed, however, highly possible that William was the son of Isaac Chandler who settled in Buckingham County about 1780 & moved to Green County, Kentucky, before 1790.
An Isaac Chandler is found on the 1782 Tax List of Buckingham County & is listed as owning land along Fish Pond Creek, a tributary of the Appomattox River, in April 1787. . Possible children of Isaac Chandler other than William are: John, Horatio & Sarah Chandler Hay.
William married Elizabeth, born January 12, 1785, in Albemarle County, Virginia. We know nothing of her parents or siblings identities. She & William may have married as early as 1802 in Virginia, Kentucky or Tennessee.
This family moved from Wilson County, Tennessee, to Jefferson County, Missouri, Meramec Township between 1830-1837. Elizabeth died there in July 1847 at age 62. William died in July 1863 at age 76. Their gravesites are unknown.
The Probate Court of Jefferson County at Hillsboro has record of 1 William Chandler dying at that time without a Will. . On August 27, 1863, John Wese, administrator of the estate, compiled a general inventory of the estate which consisted of 4 horses, 10 head of cattle, 24 head of hogs, a wagon & farming tools, a saddle & bridles, & cash on hand & 3 notes plus interest receivable in the amount of $107.10. The inventory was filed February 4, 1864. The 2 witnesses who signed the document were Oliver Cromwell & Philip Helterbrant. The settlement of the estate among the heirs after debts had been paid was as follows: to the unnamed widow $37.57; to the assumed children, Mary New, Willis Chandler, Liberty Lafoon, Caroline McKee, Parlee Keeper &
Thomas Chandler, $12.19 each. Since William's widow was not named, it is assumed to be Susan Wease. That marriage is recorded in Jefferson County, Missouri, on September 22, 1853; however, Susan is listed as Susan Weare in error. Susan's maiden name was Shoults & she was the widow of Elijah Wease.
