BIOGRAPHY: Living in former East Prussia, he was forced to join the German army in World War I and to fight against Poland. He also fought on other fronts, becoming wounded in the battle of Verdun in 1916, in which French forces repelled a massive German offensive. On his return home, he took part in the Great Poland Uprising in 1918.
Later on, he settled back in his home-village Lagiewniki and during World War II, he actively took part in some battles.
When his second son, Mieczyslaw, took over an abandoned villa in Walcz after the war, he moved there with the rest of the family and worked as an officer in the City Council.

Before the registrar of births, signed hereinafter, there appeared today the reeve Franz Glanz of known identity, with the residence in Lagiewnik, of Catholic religion, and declared that of Katherine Glanz born Wiechecka, his wife, of Catholic religion, with the residence with himself in Lagiewnik in his house, on the tenth of August of the year thousand eight hundred ninety and one, in the afternoon at six o'clock, there was born a child of male sex, which was given the name Lorenz (Wawrzyn).

Vor dem unterzeichneten Standesbeamten erschien heute, der Persönlichkeit nach bekannt, der Vogt Franz Glanz, wohnhaft zu Lagiewnik, katholischer Religion, und zeigte an, daß von der Katherina Glanz geboren Wiechecka, seiner Ehefrau, katholischer Religion, wohnhaft bei ihm, zu Lagiewnik in seiner Wohnung am zehnten August des Jahres tausend acht hundertneunzig und ein, nachmittag um sechs Uhr ein Kind männlichen Geschlechts geboren worden sei, welches den Vornamen Lorenz (Wawrzyn) erhalten habe.
