BIRTH: The birth place of this individual is given in accordance to "Enciklopedija Bylgarija" that contains a short biography of my great grand father. The genealogical tree submited by my relative Rosen Simeonov (see sources for Sava's father) contains the following entry: "Rodosloveno dyrvo ot baba Stojka Boteva, s. Fida Bej, Mariyno dnes s. Velchevo, obshch. Veliko Turnovo.". As the first part is clear: it certainly translates as "Genealogical tree of grandmother Stojka Boteva", the rest makes me a little bit confused. Velchevo is a small village several kilometers east from Kilifarevo (my father pointed to Kilifarevo as the place of Sava Botev's birth, but he could have been wrong). "Dnes" means "today". My best guess is that Mariyno indicates the former Bulgarian name for today's Velchevo while Fida Bey is its former Turkish name (especially that Sava's uncle Nikola, according to the same encyclopaedia, was born in the village of Fida Bey, that is now called Velchevo). The same place of birth was assumed for the individual's siblings.

BIOGRAPHY: Born in the small village of Velchevo (then called Mariyno) in eastern Bulgaria, he resigned of living the live of a simple farmer and entered the University of Leipzig to study agriculture (I imagine this was possible due to the support of his uncle Nikola B. Stanev, who was a scholar, too: see notes for him) and graduated from it in 1910. He was then a teacher at the "Agricultural School" in Turnovo and later, in 1923-1923, the head of the "Agricultural School" in Sadovo. Together with J. G. Kovachev, he authored the first "Encyclopaedia of Agriculture" ever published in Bulgaria (1936-1939).
