Biography
Note: {Leyman-Lehman Family Tree:} Joseph Lehman went to Somerset County at age 18, settled at base of Tire Hill. Was blacksmith for 40 years; constable for a number of years & an enthusiast in military matters, having been captain of a militia. The present school system of Paint Twp. adopted in 1861 is largely due to his efforts and those of Peter Berkey, a good friend. He was esteemed by all who knew him. In politics he was a Democrat up to the time of Andrew Jackson, when he became associated with the Whig party and later with Republicans. Three of his sons took active part in Civil War; John, Henry and Samuel.

Note: Herald of Truth, Dec. 1871 On the 27th of October, in Paint township, Somerset county, Pa., Bro. Joseph Lehman, aged 70 years and 11 months. He was buried on the 31st in Henry Foust's grave-yard, followed by his aged companion, seven sons and four daughters, and a large concourse of friends and relatives to mourn his loss. They need not mourn as those who have no hope, for he has put his trust in Jesus. He bore his sickness with patience, till death released him.
