HENRY HARSHBERGER
Was born in Somerset county, Pa., May 17, 1834. He was a son of Jonas and Barbara (Blough) Harshberger, neither of whom are living. He was married in his native county in the fall of 1853 to Rebecca LIvingston, who was born there Aug. 1, 1836. She was the daughter of David and Margaret (Sees) Livingston, deceased. As the fruit of this marriage eleven children were born; John, Jacob H., Samuel L., Elizabeth, Joseph, Lewis, Mary, Ida, Henry L., Noah and Jonas. When the war cloud rolled up from the South, our subject was engaged as a miller; he was 30 years of age when he was drafted into service Nov. 18, 1864, at Hollidaysburg, Pa., as a private in Co. K, 82d Pa. V. I., 3d Brig., 1st Div., 6th A. C. He was ill for two months, but refused to enter hospital. He took part in the engatement in front of Petersburg, and was honorably discharged July 13, 1865, at Hall's Hill, Va. His brothers, John and Jonas, belonged to Pa. Regts. His wife's brothers, Jacob and David, belonged to Pa. Regts. and the former died in service. Her grandfather, David Livingston, was a soldier in the war of 1812. Comrade Harshberger has been constable of Payne township, Somerset Co., Pa.; he is living in retirement is his address is Elton, Pa.
