Sol Lewis Martin told the story that one of his ancestors (believed to be George) died from a cut on his hand. Supposedly, George got drunk and cut his hand on a broken lantern in the barn. The cut became infected and he died.

From Jimmie Dale Martin:
According to what John Henson Martin told my father, William Laverne Martin, and he told me....
George was a heavy drinking and mean man. He had trained his horse and dogs to protect him when he passed out and fell to the ground on a drunk. He hit a tree with a lantern (thought it was a demon) and bled to death with the dogs and horse protecting him. He carried two pistols and a rifle all the time because he had enemys.

Gravestone marked "Gone but not forgotten".
