    Benton County Almanac for 1874.
    Monroe is a pleasant village seventeen miles south of Corvallis on the west bank of the Long Tom, surrounded by wealthy settlements and in the heart of a rich agricultural district. We find here three stores kept by W. C. WOODCOCK and Co., M. SHANNON, and THOMPSON (or Thomas) HINTON; one blacksmith shop, Harrison BOWEN; one flouring mill, Thomas READER, proprietor; one harness and saddle shop, Charles HIDES (HODES?); one hotel, Mrs. Sarah HOWARD; One boot and shoe shop, John WEBBER; three physicians, Cal. M. BOSWELL, L. F. SHIPLEY, and Wm. MAHON; One saloon, George LANDERKIN; one public school, M. Clay STARR, Teacher; two carpenters, Wm. J. KELLY and J. M. LAFFERTY; one lodge each of Masons, Odd-Fellows, and Champions of the Red Cross; and post office.
    I have received a copy of an obituary from a Mr Murphy in Bremerton Wash for George Landerking. Was it not included? It seems George died in Corvallis in 1886 and his funeral was attended to by the Masonic Lodge. Thu, 29 Aug 2002 14:13:32 EDT

    Notes for LORENA KIMBALL: Lorena's last name is still unproven~2001~, but we have an affidavit given by her daughter, Jeanette Landerking Quick Stevens Huggins, stating it is so.
    There is oral history of a sister to Lorena and Mr Parks, but at this time, ~2001~, we have no proof.

    Notes for JEANNETTE LORENA LANDERKIN: On the marriage affidavit from records found, Jeanettes name is spelled Janetta Lorana Landerkin. Married by BJ Crose, Justice of the Peace
    Jeanette states she buried 7 children...All of her children by Mr Stevens and her daughter, Massey from Mr Quick. She said she was married about 1 1/2 years when son John was born but could not remember any of the dates of the other children's births. She states she raised Millie, a girl who had been left in the streets of Oskaloosa, Iowa. She raised her and Millie's illegitimate son who went by the name of Huggins. Jeanette states she has a half sister, Susan Snyder, wife of William and they have 2 children: Albert and Alanzo and they lived in Grandville, Michigan.

    Clinton, Iowa:
    Dear Sir:
    Your note of inquiry bearing date of the 24th (ult?) has been rec'd asking some information in regard to the death of Mr John M Quick of Co D 26th Iowa Infty. who died at my house in May/63. but owing to our war troubles I have failed to keep a correct memorandum of the date of his death, but to the best of my recollection Mr. Quick came to my house about the 1st of April /63. enroute homeward after being paroled by the Rebels at Knoxville.
    He stated that he had been convalescent about six months, or during his imprisonment at Jackson Mip. his disease was chronic and after about one months illness at my house he deceased and I had his remains intered in our neighboring cemetry where he now remains.
    A word of congratulation to his friends is that I am happy to say that during his illness at my house he was attended with the best of care, and also received the best medical attention that our country could afford all of which he was perfectly sensible of up to his departure and expressed himself in terms of great praise of the friends that he had found in times of need.
    I now have in my possession his effects to consist of some private papers and his wife's picture to all of which will be forwarded to his relatives as soon as practicable.
    I have written previous letters to his wife and friends concerning his death to which I suppose failed reaching their destination consequently the requisite information was not received by his friends and should this fail to give satisfaction I will try to give a more detail acount in my next to.

    In a declaration for remarried Widow's Pension it states that John Quick Mason, a private in Company D, 26th Iowa Infantry was honorably discharged, died in Libby Prison, VA. within few months after enlistment. It also states they married 3-18-1859 in De Witt Iowa and were married by Squire Cross, JP. the declaration goes on to say that she married John Stevenson at Comanche, Iowa 6 years following the death of Mr Quick. Further, that Mr John Stevenson died in DesMoines, Iowa. She later married David Huggins in Monroe, Oregon in 1887 who preceded her in death at Corvallis, Oregon. She spells her name in this declaration Janet L Huggins.
    Notes for JOHN STEVENS:
    Also spelled Stephenson in some paperwork and Stevenson in others.
    Jeanette states in an affidavit that her husband was a carpenter. Also that they moved to Peking, Illinois shorlty after marrying.
    She states that Mr Stevens rec'd letters from a sister named Lydia Williams, wife of JD Williams and she believed they lived in Freeport, Ill. Jeanette also states that she and Mr Stevens lived in Galesburg, Ill and in DesMoines on Locust Street and that is where Mr Stevens died.

    Normal residence was Scapoose, Oregon.
    His death certificate lists his birth dte as 1-4-1890, but his age as 84 years, 5 months and 17 days.
    A statement from a special examiner in a letter makes the following statements 10-19-1924:
    "...and Mrs. Hannah Brown who was once married to a man named Stephens."
    "Claimant says a sister of soldier was married to a Lambert. Was this William Lambert?"
    "There are several of the Quick family in and about Clinton. Charles Howes, a tailor, DeWitt, Ia. was formerly married to one of the younger generation."
    "Wilber Quick, said to be about 45 years of age, lives near Cone or Columbus Junction, Iowa; his brother, Clarence Quick, is near Noel Stationm Clinton, Co., Iowa; and a sister, Mrs. Cella Noel in the same neighborhood.....Charles Howes told me their father is Josiah Quick, a man of about 70 years of age and living at Hackensack, Cass Co., Minn"

He married (2) ESTELLA EMERSON. He married (3) ELLA E FARLEY November 20, 1881 in Lane County, Oregon. She was born October 15, 1860.

    Obituary in Newspaper state that Alice was born Alice Reed on May 3, 1868 in Sioux City, Iowa. Her maiden name was Reed.
    She traveled to Oregon with her parents in a covered wagon when she was about 3 years old. Oral history.
