Here is our on-going project to find the ancestry of Nicholas Broersma. On the father's side, the family is basically Dutch. This side accounts for most of the data. The mother's side has a great American lineage that has roots in England, Germany, and Finland. This database is updated periodically and if you find any errors or conflicting information please e-mail me. Check out our blog http://broersmafamily.blogspot.com

China vs. America -- Mr. PECK’s Chinaman came to grief on Wednesday last. It appears that Monroe HAUVER, who is also in Mr. PECK’s employ, was engaged pumping water into a trough for the horses when John marched up to the pump to get a pail of water. Monroe in a playful way pushed the water spout aside, took the pail, filled it and handing it to John, told him to go at the same time accompanying his order by gently applying his boot to the seat of his pants. John didn’t see any fun in the act, and in rather coarse English, made a disrespectful remark about Monroe’s mother. This led to trouble, and John was cuffed or pushed and in fury he ran to the house and shortly returned with a knife and went for Monroe as though he meant business. The latter not liking the prospect of being cut into steaks, ran away, closely followed by the Chinaman. In an unfortunate moment for John, he stumbled and fell, when Monroe turned and caught. John’s head now came into hard contact with the ground and he was severely punished. Mr. PECK hastened to the spot, separated the combatants, and took the knife.

Large Eagle Wing -- Mr. HARRIS, of the Exchange Hotel, has the wing of an eagle in his possession, which on account of its large size he thinks of sending to a museum east. The quills of the wing are 40 inches in length and the feathers are spread out over 4 ft. The wing is from an eagle killed a few weeks ago by Monroe HAUVER.
