Mary Alice lived most of her life at Mathews Creek, near Dorrigo, where she became Post Mistress in the early 1900s. She reared her children there and continued on as Post Mistress until just before her death in 1964. She spent the last few years of her life living with her daughter Lorna, in Windsor dieing there in 1964.

She is buried in Dorrigo Presbyterian Cemetery beside her husband.
