Obituary Vale Baden Sinclair Born April 24,1901 Died August 17, 1988
One by one they leave us, the pioneers of the Plateau whose contribution to its progress has assured a pleasant lifestyle for today's residents.
On 17th August, 1988 Baden Sinclair came to the end of his life span at the age of 87 years. He was born on 24th April, 1901, together with his sister Nina, at " Roslyn", Bostobrick. They were the second youngest children born to W.J. and Jane Sinclair. Altogether of their father's two marriages there was a family of 24 and two foster children. From this closely knit family only Nina Phillips remains.
Baden chose farming as his vocation in life and lived for many years at his property 'Woodstock" and was a highly esteemed resident of Tyringham and the wider area of the district. This regard followed on at Sawtell, to where he and his wife Cathy retired eight years ago.
One of the highlights of their life was their trip to Scotland. It isn't given to everyone to visit their ancestral home, but that was Baden's delight when he arrived at Roslyn Castle in the little town of Roslyn near Edinburgh, home of the Sinclair clan. Mourning the loss of a loved husband, father and grandfather and brother are Cathie, Peter and Mackie Sinclair, Cherie Masterman and Poppy Stanley, and their children. Stepchildren are Tim and John Dunne and Margaret Schaar. As previously mentioned, Nina Phillips O.A.M., his twin, is the only surviving member of the family and it was a source of great pride for Baden when she was awarded the honour of the medal of the Order of Australia for services to the community. There can be no greater evidence to a person's popularity and the respect in which he or she is held, than attendance of relatives and friends at the funeral. The Sacred Heart Church was packed to capacity as Father John Kelly, parish priest of Sawtell, conducted the moving service and spoke of the qualities which had enriched Baden's life and that of his family and friends. The large cortege proceeded to Dorrigo Cemetery where he was laid to rest.
