Joseph first lived in Birmingham (now the south side of Pittsburgh) and was recorded living in the home of Jacob Miller for the 1870 census. He settled in Braddock, PA where he was a carpenter/contractor and helped build St. Joseph Catholic church, which dates from 1877. Joseph also ran a wholesale liquor business in Braddock from 1890 to 1900. In the first year revenues were $27,000; by the third year annual sales had risen to $70,000. After the turn of the century, he had a retail liquor operation in Bellaire, OH run by his son Louis. Surviving Joseph Striebich-branded items include a bottle, a serving tray and a cork opener. He also sold whiskey using the Mill Stream brand but faced a trademark infringement challenge. Joseph (or his son of the same name) was listed as a member of the Bellaire Elks in a 1904-5 directory. Along with other Braddock businessmen, he was an investor in the Braddock Tool Company, a machine tool firm that employed over 100 employees at its peak before ceasing operations.

Newspapers reported travels Chicago (1894), Europe-Germany, Italy, France and Britain (1895); Wheeling, WV (1896; Atlantic City (1903); Put-In-Bay, OH (1904); Denver (1910)
