    After her husband Robert died, Mary continued to run the family saloon and billiard parlor, located at 137 25th Street, until the first decade of the 1900s. Following her son Arthur's death, she moved to the family's property at 31st Street and Belmont and ran a boarding house with her daughter-in-law Ella Manley Sherry. She was close to Ruth Scott, her sister Ellen's granddaughter. Ruth remembers stories "Aunt Mamie" told her about growing up in West Virginia during the Civil War near a place called Sweetwater. As girls, Mary and her sisters would take food to soldiers in the field.
