Note: Absalom joined the Methodist Church Sept. 11th, 1820 and Catherine joined the same church on Nov. 2nd, 1820. Both were charter members of the Piney Grove Methodist Tabernacle established near the Alabama - Mississippi line in 1828. By 1829 they were in Pope County, Ark.
The "Early History of Pope County" by David Vance lists Absalom as one of the early settlers of Pope County. Shinn's "Pioneers and makers of Arkansas" page 144 also lists Absalom Sims. There is evidence that Absalom Sims and family , may have accompanied the Rev. Mahlon Bewley from Northwest Alabama to Pope County , as they arrived about the same time.
Absalom's will dated April 2nd, 1861 and probated Feb. 27th, 1863 indicates that his wife is still alive, but she was not listed on the 1870 Pope County Census.
