  • Note: aka Maria Ward Kirkpatrick ************ Mother of General George Armstrong CUSTER ************ Three of her four sons: George Armstrong Custer, Thomas Ward Custer, Boston Custer and her son-in-law James Calhoun were all killed at the Battle of Little Bighorn. Although her daughter Margaret "Maggie" Custer did remarry after the death of her husband James Calhoun, it does not appear that she had any children. None of her sons killed at the Battle of Little Bighorn had any children at the time of their deaths. The only grandchildren were born through her son Nevin Johnson Custer who was married to Ann North.
