Note: 2nd son. (Register of admissions to the Honourable Society of the Middle Temple. p30.) --- A sailor, who lived in Flanders, according to Susan <rsm.stahley@verizon.net> on rootsweb? LDS Ancestral File has him of Boscastle, Minster & Forrab, Cornwall. --- Parochial History of the County of Cornwall_ reproduces the monumental inscription to John Hender of Minster, Cornwall, and his wife Jane (nee Thorne): "Here under lieth enterred the body of John Hender, Esq., late lord and owner of the honour and ffee of Botreulx Castle and Worthevale in this county; a Justice of Peace and Quorum whilst he lived there; And patron of this Church; who deceased ye 7th day of June, 1611. He was trulie religious and of great integritie, & whilst he lived imployed as a principall agent in all weightye affaires of state in this his countrie. He had issue by Jane his deerest consort (Ye dau. of Thom. Thorne, late of Yardle, in ye county of Northampton, Esqr.) 4 daus. his heires. Katherine ye eldest married unto John Molesworth, Esqr., his Maties surveiour-General of this county. Francis ye second espoused unto Richard Robartes, Esqr., now high shrief ther. Mary ye third coupled unto Elice Hele, Esqr., learned in ye lawes, & Trea: of ye Temple, London; & Elizabeth ye fourth affianced in marriage unto Mr. Willm. Cotton, sone and heire to ye Right Reverend Father in God William, lord-bishoppe of Exon" (Joseph Polsue, ed., _[Lake's] Complete Parochial History of the County of Cornwall_, 3:360). As the father of Susanna (Thorne) Dudley was Thomas Thorne of Yardley Hastings, Northamptonshire, it would seem that Jane (Thorne) Hender was her sister. The will of Thomas Thorne, as reproduced in NEHGR 66:340-41, mentions his daughter "Susan Dudley" (amongst other children), and gives "[t]o the children of my Sonne Pender [?] * likewise £3 11s. 8d." - Mr. Fradd had researcher Ken Smallbone confirm that the will of Thomas Thorne of Yardley Hastings mentions "my son Hender," rather than "Pender" (as supplied by Mary Kingsbury Talcott in NEHGR vol. 66). (John Brandon) --- Or died 9 Jun 1613? Not according to MI if correctly transcribed. --- There are some good 17th century monuments to the Hender family of Botreaux, in Minster (alias Talkarn) parish church. On one of 1656 (John Hender) the children are enumerated: 3 diatrite - 8 diapason - 5 diaprnte (sic) In perfect concord may they still agree 3 Whose very numbers teach them harmony 5 --- John Hender of Botreaux Castle died 7 June 1611; bur. at Minster, where is a monument to himself and wife on which is a shield charged with the arms of of Hender.
